Shot in May of 2007, this picture is from Habana Vieja, the historic old side of the capital city.  Capturing a 1950’s aura was easy when everything present was manufactured pre-1959.  The revolution and subsequent US embargo have left manufacturing processes and technology in paralysis

Hip Hop!

International expressions of hip-hop at times represent its most core values of resistance and vibrant cultural expression in the midst of oppressive circumstances.  The graffiti is accompanied by a large sign encouraging all to participate in the May 1st International Worker’s Day parade (Día Internacional de los Trabajadores)

Taken on historic Calle 23 next to el Monumento de la Revolución, this picture shows middle school Cuban children with their uniforms on excited and ready to participate in the May 1st Workers Day parade.

This photo ended up as a finalist in Glimpse Magazine’s 2008 Travel Calendar.  It shows a Haitian man struggling to an immense amount of produce.
